REGENT HONG KONG

Dragonfly Bronze Trees in REGENT HONG KONG

Outdoor sculptures in 220 harbour view guest rooms

A series of handcrafted bronze bonsai sculptures by Hong Kong metal artisan Fanson Lam. Inspired by the rich history of metalwork, Fanson incorporates his contemporary artisanship to convey Asian culture and traditions through the elegance, strength and durability of his metal creations. For his iterations of the bronze bonsai, he is inspired by dragonflies, which in Chinese culture represent love and harmony, as well as strength and success. While most insects are easily injured by heavy rain, dragonflies emerge dancing. Driving away nature’s pests, dragonflies are known to bring auspicious Feng Shui. In each unique bonsai sculpture, whether viewed from a distance or up-close, you can see the flexibility, changeability and vitality of dragonflies in various shapes. Whether viewed in ornamental detail or in silhouette in front of the hotel window, through sunlight or backlit at nighttime, each expresses the harmony and tranquillity of the natural landscape – creating a bespoke and intriguing lens for the spectacular harbourviews.

This bronze sculpture, made using lost-wax casting, explores how "love" nurtures "family" and "career." Inspired by the commissioner’s family stories, it reflects childhood memories, global adventures, and nature's beauty. The piece features a passionate rider on a racecourse emblem, symbolizing a forward-looking attitude in racing. The globe includes horse racing reliefs, showcasing the sport's international spirit. Intertwining "love" and "faith," the sculpture emphasizes the importance of family harmony in achieving career goals. Its base incorporates prayer wheel designs and beloved flowers—lilies, cherry blossoms, and birds of paradise—representing mutual support and life's vitality.
