The creation of the sculpture was based on the artist’s beloved Buddhist grandmother who passed away due to illness. Taking inspirations from her family name “Yip” (which means tree leaves in Chinese) and Buddhism ideas, he portrayed his family member as a piece of fallen leaf. The artist applied techniques such as folding, carving and throwing to demonstrate the very last moment of his grandmother’s life.

“Karma”, 2016, Bronze, 27 x 14 x 9.5 cm

Artist Fanson Lam applied clay sculpting techniques to present the face of Keung To, a member of Hong Kong pop idol group “Mirror” @mirror.weare in the sculpture. He then sprayed a layer of chalkboard paint on the surface so that the work itself has the characteristics of chalkboard writing.

During the exhibition, the audience will be encouraged to write on the sculpture and even doodle on it. By drawing and erasing the work repeatedly, the viewers will be able to see the different aspects of the work and the freedom and experimentation of the creation itself. This work is a three-dimensional creation shaped by the concept of “Keung To”, “The viewers” and “Sculpture Creation".

“Mr. Keung”, 2021, Resin, 53 x 18 x 18 cm
